Lyrics, Lip Syncs, La De Da’s…
This year’s GB theme is “Lyrics, Lip Syncs, and La De Da’s”, with an all things music approach to this year’s submissions! We are encouraging any and all animations that are based around and inspired by music (any genre, any bpm, original or copyrighted). Please read on for a breakdown of the theme and our requirements for submissions further below…

Think classic AMV material where the lyrics appear on screen in addition to movement from either the lyrics or characters or motifs. A lot of motion graphics and more classic “music video” vibes, where text is doing a lot of heavy lifting but it’s still engaging, telling a story, and/or energetic!

You better lip sync for your life if you take on this challenge. For this showcase, we are looking for lip syncs of audio clips or parts of songs that are more about the performance of said clips. This would be “diegetic” and be like you’re animating someone actually singing the song or dancing to the music!

Folks, it doesn’t get much more classic than this. Think of any music video that's like a movie… but also it's a cartoon... Boom, that’s exactly what we are looking for. If Lip Syncs are diegetic, then this category would be “non-diegetic” or more like a soundtrack than anything for your characters to do whatever to. Included below are just a few examples of a really wide array of what we are looking for, but think clips to a soundtrack, anime openings, or sequences that revolve around a story.

Typically animation memes you might be familiar with fall into this category but we kindly ask you to do your own original spin on the song, no animation memes please. We would love all submissions to be your own original interpretation of a song!

As you can see, there’s many ways to interpret our theme! Obviously, we aren’t trying to be super strict about everything, but these are guidelines for what we are looking for. The content, experimentation, combination, and stylization of these categories is completely up to you, they do not have to be exactly as described above, we just want to specify!
All songs and clips will have to be cleared beforehand so there are no repeats! Thank you for understanding.
